Shopping is one of Malaysian's favourite pastimes with many shopping malls available nationwide. Whether it is to shop for branded goods, imitation goods, arts and crafts or souvenirs, Malaysians are bound to know where to go in order to find some good bargains.

For those who would like to shop for souvenirs, you can head out to the souvenir shops and tourist centres like Central Market or at the heritage centres to find the best and most authentic local arts and crafts. Karyaneka is one of the best place to start if you want to buy crafts and souvenirs. Otherwise you should be able to find these items at most shopping malls but it might be costlier.

Branded goods are found in almost all shopping centers in Malaysia. particularly in Kuala Lumpur, you can find almost a shopping mall at an arm's length. Mid Valley Mega Mall is one of the biggest shopping malls in the country. It recently extended into another new wing known as The Gardens which has Robinson's as its anchor tenants. Other brands available here include Guess, Padini, Crocs and hypermarket Carrefour. Jusco and Metrojaya are the anchor tenants here.

Sunway Pyramid and One Utama are another two mega shopping malls in Klang Valley. Both malls had also recently expanded to savour the indulgence of shoppers alike. One Utama is one of the most prominent shopping malls in Malaysia, hosting a gymnasium and a climbing gym as well. Suria KLCC is located below the Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest building in Malaysia. In Suria KLCC you can find branded goods like Zara, MNG and designer label like Hugo Boss and Giorgio Armani.

A new shopping mall is at The Curve, Damansara Perdana which sells branded goods as well as local products. This mall is connected the biggest IKEA showroom in South East Asia as well as Cineleisure, a cinema centric shopping mall.

If you are a bargain hunter, head out to Petaling Street, otherwise known as Chinatown where you can find an array of stalls that sell imitation goods, souvenirs and essential items like watches, handbags and a lot of food. Petaling Street is one of the busiest streets at night fall because it is always bursting with visitors who come here to find a bargain.

We also have a common trend of night markets where you can find hundreds of stalls set up on certain nights selling foodstuff to vegetables to clothing and many others. You have to know before hand where these night markets are as they are not available at the same spot every night. check out our Night Markets section to find out the schedule of when and where such markets are.

You can also find bargains on home manufactured products or second hand goods at flea markets held on weekends at malls like The Curve, Mont Kiara, AMcorp Mall and Plaza Damas. This is were temporary stalls are set up people who have things to sell that are either self made, sourced from neighbouring countries or just used products. You can be sure to find a variety of items here including accessories, clothing, paintings and crafts as well.
